Barracks Inspection an' a Physical

N'ano and Lyri decide to pop into the barracks for an inspection, then usher the candies off for physicals.

You go to the Candidate's Barracks.

Candidate's Barracks

Long and low, this large room angles back into the mountain in a near-perfect rectangle, devoid of windows and hearth. A functional room -- all black volcanic rock and simple earthen tapestries, there is nothing but stark simplicity in the seemingly endless rows of cots that scatter back into the shadows. A small clothespress sits at the end of each puce-covered bed -- yes, puce. Every cot sports a rather gaudy and obnoxiously purple cotton coverlet, leftovers from PranksPast. Boys to the right, girls to the left. Enjoy.

Hanging out on a long wooden shelf on the wall are ten firelizards.

You see Rhaeyn's Rickety Raspberry Rumpled Cot, Dru's Dependable Den of Dahlias, Nadine's Neat Narrow Niche Cot, Thistia's Cozy Cluttered Comfy Cot, Ajala's Ghetto Pad, Twinky McTwink the Klahbark tree, Oze's Hammock of Doom, Kaefe's Cot, Larix's Cookie Dome, Khris's Ghastly Gargantuan Grape Garret, Lauria's Cot Worth Athousand Words, Yazzy's Cut Loose Cot, Pendren's Prestigeous Plethera of Pillows Cot, Yuri's Refuge, Shadi's Pad of Comfort, Lexia's Cot, Ashlee, and Narika here.

You notice Drutoley, Lexia, Khristeen, Yuri, and Ozeunzi asleep here.

Shadis, Nadine, and N'ano are here.

Lyria saunters into the barracks, looking sandy, wearing a riding jacket open over a bikini-top. Yay for being back from a beach field trip. A couple candies are delivered into the barracks, including the twins - eyeroll - and Lyri stands in the doorway, looking around the room, then at N'ano. Are they supossed to do something? Say something? Give out a chore? Give an inspection? Well for now she'll just stand and look ominous.

Narika nods and starts to answer Shandis when N'ano enters. Her reaction is one that has been trained into her and she rises, bowing slightly from the middle "Weyrleader."

N'ano is just shirtless. Woo. Yay for returning to Ista's hot 'n stickiness. Narika's formality doesn't cause him to slack off of his own, so a proper salute and a nod of his head is given in silent greeting towards the candidate. Lyria's look is returned to her with one of his own, "Eh--alright. Barrack inspection time!" That's good 'nough to do.

Shadis has had his manners bred into him, but he simply waves when N'ano enters. This is probably the first time Shadis has even learned that N'ano's the weyrleader. "Hey, N'ano," he calls, giving a nod of his head. Come to think of it, Shadis didn't even know N'ano's title when he was searched. The rider only introduced himself as N'ano. "Inspection? What do we have to do?"

Narika looks mildly confused and addresses N'ano. "Inspection, Sir? What does this entail?"

Nadine blinks and looks up as Lyria and N'ano enter. "Uh. /Inspection/?" She freezes in the middle of her poorly-done mending and quickly looks around the somewhat disorderly, and mismatching, barracks. "Er...can you come back in, maybe, ten minutes? Hey, I have a shirt you can use, too, if you want one, Weyrleader--newly repaired by way of me and my magical needle." Voila.

What? No greeting for Lyria? Well she'll just go pout in the corner. Actually, she won't. Lyri nods,"Right. Inspection." Lyria the trusty sidekick. The candidates aren't the only ones who looked confused as Lyri turns a bit to whisper,"What're we inspecting for exactly?" All she remembers from inspections is E'an turning over her cot and talking to her ferret.

N'ano laughs, shaking his head, "I just took it off--headin' into the baths after this, but thanks for the offer." It's for the twins' sake, really. Right. "--Inspection, yes... well, remember inspections in the weyrlin' barracks?" Surely Lyria remembers... "Well, somethin' like that. Just makin' sure it's clean 'n makin' sure there ain't no crawlers or spiderclaws in here."

Narika motions to her cot and immaculately kept space. "You may start here, if you wish," she offers in her soft voice, "I don't like webspinners."

Lyria nods slowly. Ah. She edges over towards Narika's cot, looks at it, and nods. "Uhm...Looks good!" announces Lyria. She leans toward Narika, squinting a bit,"That's just too neat. How can you be that neat?" Mark the girl down to clean Lyri's weyr. Added to list of mental notes. She turns back around with a shrug. How was that?

Nadine unfreezes enough to tug her needle--dangerous, pointy thing that it is--off its thread and dumps the half-stitched garment into the basket, along with all the mended and unmended things on her cot. "Hey, hold on. Will this lead to more chores? Lemme check again, I didn't know you were going to be /inspecting/..." Sounding slightly offended, she slips off her cot, which is, at least, made up, and peers underneath, surreptitiously swiping away at any dust or cobwebs that may have secretly made their way in. That done, she leaps over to the bag containing the few outfits she managed to get brought up and makes sure it's closed with no socks or underthings poking out. "I can not be held responsible for any part of these barracks not under my domain," she then intones, standing completely still for a moment, before skipping around to bounce back onto her cot.

Narika smiles a pleased smile, but humility makes her avoid Lyria's eyes "Thank you, ma'am" she says. "Uh, I don't suppose you know when the rest of my things will be arriving?"

"Me neither," N'ano replies to Narika as he does indeed, make his way towards her cot first as well, "Mmm... nice. Very good. Mmm hmm," he agrees with Lyria while inspecting her cot before making his way onto the next. "Cookies? I don't think so..." We'll pretent that they're illegal so N'ano can confiscate them.

Shadis nods, standing and gesturing to his own cot, also. "Mine's clean, you can check it." He grins, remembering his own wet shirt. He heads to his cot and pulls a fresh shirt fron his pack stashed beneath it. His slightly wet shirt, from a brat tossing water on him while he was cleaning, is stripped off and replaced with a fresh green one.

Lyria blinks at Narika,"Uh..." She has a rest of her things? "No idea." Lyri goes to the next cot,"Hey N'ano look a spideclaw! A big one!" she shouts across the room, waits a moment, then giggles,"Just kidding." Halo.

Narika's face registers a moment of panic at Lyria's 'spiderclaw' but it goes as quickly as the disclaimer arrives. To herself she mutters an 'Oh bother' before following Lyria to explain, "I've only two gowns with me, ma'am, and nothing to read."

N'ano freezes in his spot, slowly turning on his heels to face Lyria once she states the falseness of the comment, "I'm gonna--ERGH! Don't /DO/ that!" Oooh, did he just give away that little secret of his? His fear of those little things? "Oh--Narika. We can go get the rest of y'stuff when we all go to Gar to talk to your mother." Dun dun duuuuun. And now he spins towards Shadis' cot for inspection. "Good." Just good?

Narika listens respectfully when N'ano speaks, but turns white when her mother is mentioned. "Oh, that's not going to be good," she mutters and sits on the edge of her cot, manners or not, she needs to sit.

Lyria trails after N'ano, giving the good little candidates pats on the head. "You mean when /you/ all go talk to her- Oh finefine I'll go you need all the help you can get." Either that or she wants to witness N'ano being yelled at. Most likely the latter.

Nadine continues to bounce lightly on her cot, legs down and spread slightly to prevent as much visibility and access to the bottom of her cot as possible. "Tell Sapha if you see her I wanna go get more clothes," she adds to everyone in general. "She keeps saying we will and then, you know, not." The messenger bobs her head to reinforce this point. "Who's 'er mom? Why do you need to talk to her? Just send her a message or something. It's easier." She shrugs.

Shadis nods, twitching his shirt slightly so it's comfortable. "Why are you going to talk to Narika's mother?" He asks, curious. Suddenly remembering the pink dolphin plushie Kyu sent him, Shadis' face becomes bright red and he quickly turns, attempting to stuff it under his blankets before anyone else will notice.

N'ano nods his head quickly, "Well, you're the one that brought her back here so there ain't no reason why you can't face her as well! And Kita's comin' for fun." He probably mentioned that before, but chooses to restate that fact just because. "We have to talk to her 'cause--well, we do." No need to prod into that business, is there?

Narika sighs, her elbows on her knees so her hands can prop up her chin. "She's not happy, is she?"

Lyria turns back around to Shadis and Nadine, to explain. But then N'ano does. So she doesn't. But she does notice a spattering of pink,"Oooooh what is /that/?" she must ask in that taunting voice. But that's the only fun in it so she turns around to wave a hand at Narika,"Don't you worry."

Narika is caught between a rock and a hard place if her mother is unhappy she's here and her brother was proud she was chosen. For someone who's spent most of her life trying to please the two of them, this is a conundrum.

N'ano shakes his head, looking back towards Narika, "Nooooo... not from what I've heard, anyway. I got word from Gar that she's very upset. But, like all rumors, we won't know that 'till we see her for ourselves, right?" Erk. "As for when we're goin' down, well, maybe later today, perhaps. I have to see if I've any other meetings t'tend to."

Narika looks pleadingly up at N'ano and sits up straighter. "The longer she has to get used to the idea the less loud she will be," she sighs.

Nadine waits for more, but when it becomes plain there won't be, she scowls and flumps back against her pillow, splaying over her cot and, in effect, pouting. Now bored, she toys with the ugly purple coverlet and counts cracks in the ceiling. "Looks like the place is gonna collapse right in on us," she muses loudly. "Just like that other time. All the rocks falling apart and in, and people getting trapped, and everything having to be dug out..." Trust Nadine to bring up something completely unrelated.

N'ano muses Narika's statement for a moment, "Well--you able to wait like... oh, I 'nno, the hatchin' to get more stuff then? I'm sure you could borrow somethin' or uh... maybe we can go buy y'somethin'. I 'unno." Anything to escape the wraths of Natch. "Wha?" turning, N'ano just stares at Nadine awkwardly, "Oh, it ain't gonna fall. Y'know how long these caverns have held up?" Of course, there's no saying that it's not time for them to cave in yet, is there?

Lyria blinks at Nadine,"Nadine. That was 'cause of a meteor, though." Blinkblink. She waves a hand at N'ano,"Oh c'mon. You have to face her sometime." Besides, Lyri needs something else on her list of Things to Tease N'ano About.

Narika looks down at what she's wearing and over at what Nadine is wearing and smiles just a little. "I suppose I could buy some things to work in. I did bring some marks. I think I'd rather stay here, even if the ceiling caves in, than go back just now. Of course if you do go yourself," she offers most humbly, "You could ask for my gardening clothes."

Nadine noddles eagerly, sitting up slightly and leaning on her elbows. "Yeah, yeah, but maybe the meteor thing weakened the very foundations of all the stoniness and if someone sneezes in the wrong place, at the wrong time..." Her voice drops dramatically. "Why, then..." Unfortunately, she can't think of any good wording, so she concludes rather lamely yet grandiosely, "Then, it'd be bad. Real bad. Cuz...you know. Yeah." She points to a spot on the wall opposite her cot. "See that? That crack? That crack could go all the way through the wall, and if the right vibrations hit it at the right angle, everything could /crumble around it/!"

Lyria shakes her head at Nadine,"I doubt it. But...Hey you never know, right?" Lyri drops down to sit on the edge of Nadine's cot. Just like old times. Okay, maybe not. But...close.

"Right--okay. Yeah, you don't have to come with us if y'don't wanna... that's no prob. We can just--uh, try 'n prod some outfits for you from your mother," N'ano states, nodding a couple of times. "I--just don't know when I should go down there though." Sighing, he settles on the edge of an empty cot, "To me, I'd think she'd be happy, y'know? It's certainly an honor to be searched..."

Narika is a kind soul and feel sorry for N'ano. She goes to stand beside him, her small hand resting on his large shoulder in sympathy. "Don't go, Sir. She will be unhappy whether you go or not." She doesn't say 'save yourself', but it's in her tone if you listen. "Why don't you just remember she's retired now, and not a Lady Holder at all." Narika smiles, trying to get N'ano to do the same, "She just acts like one."

Nadine suddenly grins. "You're right, you never do. We didn't then. We probably wouldn't now. But I doubt it will." She shrugs, tossing aside the idea just as quickly as she had pulled it out of the air. "Oh, well. Maybe something else'll happen. You know, to make things interesting. It's kinda dull here, especially with nothing even /started/ yet, you know? Even if it won't matter in the end after all this." N'ano is simply given a Look for the last statement. Those who know Nadine need nothing said.

Shadis's cheeks turn really bright red and he eyes Lyria warily. No. "Nothing." He says loudly, sitting down quickly onto his cot. Narika's predicament is only half listened to, since Shadis us more worried about protecting his maleness and not letting anyone see the plush that Kyu sent him. Waaaaait. A /crack/? Suddenly Shadis doesn't care anymore and he jumps to his feet. "WHAT, NADINE!?" Yes, he's frantic. That's what you get when a wall falls on you and your mentor. "A crack?" Similar to the cracking in his voice as it squeeks on him?

Narika gives Nadine such a look. "Oh, stop. You know the weyr is safe and so are we. Safe as anywhere."

"Well, that's true. I just don't like--I 'unno. I just know how parents are 'n stuff when they lose a child. I mean, it's not like you're gone forever y'know... but it's hard," N'ano says, shrugging and resorting to stand. "Ah well. I'll just go there to get ya some more stuff... if she says anythin', then I'll talk to her. Simple as that. You're still comin' though, Lyria." Nice punishment for nothing.

Lyria knows Nadine and therefore needs nothing said. But Shadis earns a stare. Riight. She turns back around to N'ano to haughtily reply,"I need something entertaining to watch anyway."

Narika stands where she is, torn between going home and the possibility of maybe staying there and the scene her mother will make and staying here where she doesn't have to deal with that particular problem. She inhales and seems to will herself to stop thinking about it. "Nadine," she smiles nicely, "Have you wanted to be a miner?"

Nadine seems quite pleased with herself. "Well, at least /someone/ is considering the -possibility- of it," she announces loudly to the air. "Can't hurt to be /cautious/, now can it? Wouldn't do to get /arrogant/ and secure in everything, now." She's silent for a while then as she thinks, then whirls her head around to face N'ano, ignoring his plight and asking as politely as she can manage, "What happened to that Candidate party, with the cake, you wanted? We could use a nice break in a couple days...this is going to be a long Candidacy, you know, since there aren't even eggs yet," she points out hopefully.

"Eh--well, we ended up havin' a party at someone's weyr instead," N'ano sheepishly states, rubbing at the back of his head, "But, I wouldn't be 'gainst another party... for you guys. But nothin' but juice to drink, y'hear? No alcohol." Except for the riders. They already had to suffer the candidacy and weyrling bit without it. "But if ya'll are up to it, y'can have one tonight--tomorrow... whenever."

Shadis blinks, sucking in a breath slowly. "A crack? Where?" Shadis' voice has taken on a scared, high pitched tone. N'ano may be afraid of spiderclaws, but Shadis is scared of being trapped again. Just the possibility of the walls or ceiling collapsing makes him frantic, but it doesn't bother him as long as it isn't commented upon. He breaths in deeply, trying to suck in as much air as possible before he freaks out.

Lyria nods,"As long as you invite me," to the party that is. Lyri just stares at Shadis. Can we say phobia? "Don't worry about it. Nothing's going to haaappen."

Nadine peers intently at Narika before finally answering, "Nope, haven't the slightest interest. But I was here when that meteor hit. This place /could/ fall in. It's not an impossibility." She then manages to successfully beam at N'ano, temporarily glossing over the fact that they were excluded from the original party. "Really? Can we have a cake made or are we expected to do that, too?" The messenger blinks at Shadis, suddenly somewhat concerned over his panic. "Whoaaa. Calm down. Chances are we'll be somewhere else if it happens again--like on the Star Stones, like last time." Beam. Because being way high up during an earthquake is really great, too. "Y'wanna go hang out in the bowl or something for a while?"

Lyria shakes her head at the memory,"Oh Faranth that was awful, Nadine." Being on the star stones when the meteor hit. Lyri automatically rubs her chin. The poor girl tripped and bit through her lip during that. Still has a scar, she does. A small hard-to-see one but it's still a scar.

Shadis stares, wide-eyed, suddenly perusing the walls for possible cracks. He starts to get closer to the wall, but just as suddenly jumps back. That was how he and Mirella ended up hurt... By trying to asses the situation and check the crack. He whirls, eyeing Nadine warily. "Again?!" Poor Shadis.

Narika has her own memories but chooses to not dwell on them or she migh get upset as well. "What was this about a party?"

N'ano grins, "Well, you'll probably have to make it, 'less you can convince Annly to make one up for you. But maybe you should ask Larix--he's got 'nough Baker skills to toss one together, I'd think." At the talk about the meteor, N'ano just winces, "Aye--I remember that thing. Hit hard, eh? Why don't ya'll make youselves outside--or to the caverns. Or go to the 'firmary 'n get your physicals outta the way... that way you can 'joy the party without havin' to leave when I healer prods you away."

Narika looks to the door and excuses herself. Maybe being in the open air isn't such a bad idea just now.

Nadine blinks at Lyria, obviously not expecting such a reaction. "Oh, sorry...really. I made myself forget about it really happening, so I guess I kinda assumed everyone else was over it too..." She pulls her legs up, swivels around until she's on the edge of her cot, and lets down her legs again, tapping her feet idly on the floor. "Shadis, really! We're okay! Wanna go get the physicals like N'ano said and--" She stops suddenly. "Er, no, wait. I don't want my physical!" Eee, scary things, those physicals. "Scary Healers," too. "We'll bug Larix about the cake. I'll just burn the water or somethin'."

Well it wasn't that dramatic of a reaction. Just sort of a statement. It was awful. She waves off Nadine's apology. "Oh physicals aren't thaaat bad." And another shake of her head,"You /can't/ burn water." Although knowing Nadine she may find a way to...

N'ano just shakes his head, "Really now... Hyti's a sweetie pie. She doesn't bite, I promise. Well, maybe a litt--er, no she won't bite you. I'd get it over with as soon as possible while the healers aren't cranky! 'n like I said, Hytiaf's in there right now. I'll make sure she's easy on ya'll... shards, I'll even get a physical if y'want." Though Hyti's probably more than willing to check him out... but we won't go there. "So if ya'll want one, go now while she's there! Otherwise you'll get Alain. He's a tough cookie."

Shadis gulps, tossing himself back down on his cot, though he continues to look around for cracks. Forget embarrassment, that pink dolphin is the only thing even close to comfort Shadis has right now and the newly arrived plushie is pulled out from under his blankets and idly stroked while Shadis visibly attempts to calm himself down. "Physic" breaaaath,"als?"

No, not too dramatic, but still more than Nadine had expected. "They have cold hands," she informs Lyria stoutly. "And I'm positive there's a way to burn water. If no one else knows how, /I'll/ just have to figure it out. While I'm helping make dinner for the Weyr. Who's Hytiaf? And who's Alain?" She looks blankly at N'ano, confused and trying to remember if she ought to remember those names. "Let's get the physicals over with anyway, though," she sighs, standing. "At least this way we won't have a big audience of fellow Candidates..."

Shadis is obviously afraid of the walls falling on him, but with a strong shove and an order, you might be able to get him in there. He's still appropriately obediant to his superiors, but scared out of his wits. Guess Shadis will not be spending much time in the barracks anymore.

You go to the Infirmary.

Infirmary

This natural, bubble-shaped cave shows signs of recent renovations, the walls freshly painted, with new fittings. Cupboards cover one wall of the large cave, one marked prominently with a black skull and crossbones and bolted with a heavy lock. A stone bench, covered in a padded sheet, rests in the center of the room directly under a glass glowbasket; this area is the examining table. Racks, draped carefully with sterile cloths, surround the bench. Another bench against the back wall contains a sink, a water heater, and research equipment, including a white cloth draped over what must be a microscope. Three beds line the wall opposite the cupboards, curtains on tracks prepared to be drawn around them. The room smells faintly of redwort and numbweed.

On top of the cupboards are four firelizards.

You see Search Physical Board here.

You notice Kiyoshi, Kerali, Hytiaf, Alain, and Kaefe asleep here.

N'ano, Nadine, and Shadis are here.

N'ano whistles, making his way into the infirmary with a candie shortly behind him. "Oh Hyti? Darlin'?" he semi-greets, wandering over to her to give her a big 'ol smooch on the cheek, "You up to doin' some physicals?" he asks, after hearing Lyria and Shadis enter as well not long after him. "We've got a couple candies here--Shadis 'n Nadine..."

Lyria leans on the doorway,"Yup. Candidates." And Lyri is hovering by the exit...Why? Maybe she doesn't particularly love visits to healers either? Nawww. She must be blocking it just incase someone wants to escape or somethin'/

Hytiaf looks up from her work at her desk and looks the candidates over. "Hm?" She looks at N'ano, slightly confused for a moment before smiling in understanding. "Oh. Physicals. Sure. I suppose I could do one or two. Do we have any volunteers to start with?" She stands up and stretches a bit, leaning against her desk as she does before she rounds the desk, grabbing at a pouch to sling over her shoulder as she moves.

Nadine trails along behind N'ano, her face the very essence of Cool, Calm, and Collected. Physical? No sweat. Literally--Healer hands are cold, shardit, not hot. "Hey." She gives a sort of circular wave, starting on one side, moving up, and coming down on the other. Lyria's hovering is noticed and Nadine grins at her. "What, think we're going to make a mad dash for freedom?" she jokes, yet for some reason lacks the courage to volunteer and rather shrinks back instead.

Lyria smirks at Nadine,"How 'bout you just go volunteer, then?" Lyri just makes herself comfortable leaning against the door.

Shadis has nothing against physicals... He'd even volunteer if it weren't for the fact that he's extremely freaked out and can't really think beyond the possibility of the walls caving in on him. He's not claustrophobic at all, but since Nadine has mentioned it, Shadis can't get the thought from his head.

N'ano plops himself down on a cot. "If y'need any help, I can always pitch a hand in," N'ano suggest mischievously. He's got nice /waaaarm/ hands. "Or if you need a trusty sidekick to hand you your utensils." Since you know, these physicals are like brain surgery.

Hytiaf eyes Shadis for a moment before narrowing her eyes at Nadine. She then turns to N'ano and shrugs a little. "Why don't we do Shadis now. He looks like he'll shed his skin to get out of here, and it wouldn't be nice to make him wait." She smiles sweetly at the younger man before wandering over to the sink to wash up. "Who ever is going first can go ahead and change out of their clothes and take a seat on the examination table." She begins to rub the smelly redwort on her skin as well. "Thank you, N'ano. I always appreciate your help."

N'ano grins, "M'pleasure..." Pointing towards the gowns off to the side, N'ano adds, "'n we have those to change into if you don't wanna be naked." Who does? Following Hyti, N'ano too, washes his hands out of habit, though avoids the redwort as much as he can by only using a little to disinfect his hands with. Ewwie.

Nadine smiles with barely hidden relief and falls back to the door, joining Lyria. "You never inspected my cot," she points out, grinning. "Nyah-hah!" Pbbth. "Shooo, any news of Big Important Stuff going on?" And suddenly Lyria is transformed into Nadine's gossip source--huzzah for her. The messenger rocks back and forth on the balls of her feet, alternating between watching the infirmary proceedings and looking at Lyria for conversation.

Shadis just sort of stares around him. His name is mentioned, but Shadis has lost the thought of the sentance. A break is taken from staring at the walls as Shadis begins staring at Hytiaf, following her movements without actually seeing what's going on.

Lyria shakes her head. "Uhm...Not that I can thiiink of..." A slight shrug to Nadine,"Anything interesting happening in the world of candies?"

Hytiaf raises an eyebrow. She looks directly at Shadis and walks over. "I need you to take off your clothes now." She smiles warmly before looking over to N'ano for help. SHe sighs and wanders over to an examination table and spreads a fresh sheet over the surface, making it a little warmer than it was before and certainly more clean feeling, the pristine white sheet covering the surface with out spot or wrinkle.

"Shadis?" N'ano says, waving his hand in front of the candidate, "You gonna get ready for this or wha'?" he grins, pointing towards the gowns again "'n there's a curtain over there you can change 'hind, okay? Now gooo!" Maybe two people prodding him with get him to move.

Nadine shrugs right back. "Yeah. Yesterday I picked up thirty-four pieces of litter on the beach, pulled five weeds, shoveled two shovelfuls of manure, and folded six loads of general laundry." Shadis is given a sort of nudge-prod. "Hey. Pink-plush-boy." Yes, she's seen his dolphin. Mwahah. "You're supposed to take your clothes off. So they can examine you, remember?"

Lyria listens politely, nodding. You can tell she cares, can't you? "Ooh Nadi, do you like spiderclaws? I've got a whole bucketfull of 'em." Or she took a whole bucketfull from Pendren. Whatever. "Oooh or maybe I could get the bakers to make some spiderclaw legs for our party..."

Shadis blinks at Hytiaf, realizing she's talking /to/ him. With a shake of his head and a wary look at the walls, Shadis begins slowly removing his shirt. He leans over, pulling his sandals off before straightening and unlacing his pants. With the speed he's undressing at, one could assume it's a strip show, drawn out for excitement purposes. Finally, the pants are pulled off and he eyes N'ano, slightly confused. Curtain? You must be kidding right? And didn't you say the gowns were for if you're embarrassed? Shadis wouldn't be embarrassed, even if he had all his senses.

N'ano shoots a glance over his shoulder at Lyria, "Don't go tellin' me you brought those shardin' things back!?" Oooh, his voice is nearly squeaking now in fear, how cute! Shadis' disrobing causes no reaction from N'ano. And why should it? Guys are guys. N'ano's a guy. He knows what men look like nekkid. It's all the same. He won't be oozing over him like some of the girls might. "Alrighty then... shards, I haven't helped with one of these in turns!"

Well, Lyria /did/ ask. "Ooh, spiderclaws? If they're cooked right, I love 'em. Can never get tired of spiderclaws. /Fish/, on the other hand..." Nadine just shakes her head, determinedly looking away from Shadis as he undresses. Not when she's a Candidate, at least, however she feels about the rules. "Mmm, spiderclaw legs and cake and...juice. Well, can't have it perfect, I s'pose. Two out of three's not bad."

Lyria rolls her eyes at N'ano,"They'll be cooked. They'res no danger to you." Shadis...Lyri seems to be staring at him a lot today. But she's not oozing. She's laughing. Snigger. Lyri shakes her head and looks away to her conversation with Nadine while Shadis is halfway into his act, smirking, about Shadis of course,"Hey, I've got three for three." Yay for not being on restriction from alcohol.

N'ano still inches his way as far as he can from Lyria, "Pfft... right, until they escape 'n attack me when you're not lookin'!" Maybe Hyti can protect him from the evil spiderclaws. Evil Evil Evil. "Whatcha want me to do, Hyti?" N'ano soon after asks, turning his complete attention to the healer, "Or rather, whatcha startin' with?"

Hytiaf raises an eyebrow at the whole lot before shaking her head. "Shadis.." She begins ever sentence with his name now, at least till she's sure she's got his attention. "If you want, I have a towel right here. You can cover up for a while during the physical. I'm going to need you to have a seat here on the table though." She pats the table quietly, her eyes locked on the candidate. She speaks to N'ano, but doesn't look at him. "Can you fetch my listening tube and warm it?"

Shadis nods slowly, half dazed. You'd think the healer would realize there's something wrong, wouldn't you? Shadis nods, climbing up onto the table. He's not worried about flashing himself about to others, or even the healers' cold hands. Or warm hands. Or which ever.

"Yes ma'am!" N'ano salutes, making his way over to the counter where Hyti's listening tube rests, holding it between his hands to make it nice and warm, "Though I'm sure Shadis there wouldn't mind if it were ice cold," he grins, returning to Hyti's side once it's warm enough. "Here y'go."

Nadine grumps at Lyria. "Well...you're stupid. So hah." That was a really witty comeback, yep. "Spiderclaws? Attack? What's to attack with? All they've got is the little pinchy claw-y thingies..." Exactly. "Listening tubes don't warm up. It's impossible to warm a listening tube. They're made to be cold. You can never stop it. Resistance is futile. Lyyyriiiaaa, I--um. Forgot what I was going to say..." She leans against the other side of the door, arms folded, trying to remember what she'd been about to comment on or ask about.

Hytiaf takes a deep breath and gets to that part of the physical. "Hello, Shadis. I'm Hytiaf. I'll be your healer today. Can you tell me first of all, do you have any healing wounds or recent illnesses? I need to know about them." She eyes Nadine for a moment, half tempted to reinforce her suspicions when it comes time for her physical, but decides against it. Its Ista. It's summer. There is no way that anything cool would be unwelcome at this time.

Lyria will just give up on N'ano. Either that or slip a couple spiderclaws into his boots. But not right now. "Did it have to do...With spiderclaws?" Lyri doesn't exactly know what Nadi was going to say, so she's probably not much of a help. "Cake? Shadis? Uh..."

Well, it still feels like summer at Ista. But when you travel to some place far away, the truth that autumn is in bloom is quite evident. N'ano of course found that out the hard way with that little field trip. Anywho, making his way around the infirmary, he starts to gather the other equipment that'll be used in the near future, setting it down on a tray beside Hyti. "Got the other stuff here..." he mentions.

"What?" Shadis quesitons, locking his eyes on Hytiaf suddenly. "What?" Not only does Shadis have no clue what Hytiaf is talking about, but did Lyria just call him a cake? "What?" He repeats... again. Somebody hit him. Knock him out. He'll wake up without any thought to possible cracks in the walls.

Nadine beams brilliantly back when she notices Hytiaf watching. Hey, remember, this is Nadine you're thinking about. She likes to complain and exaggerate. "Nooo, it was...oh! Yeah. Can you--" She gets cut off yet again, but this time from outside sources as someone calls for her. She peeks out the door. "Yeah?" Glancing back in at Lyria, she says apologetically, "They want my help with something in the Barracks. See you." And fwoosh, she's escaped! Saved by the call.

Hytiaf raises an eyebrow and watches the young man with concernation. "N'ano.. hand me the glow tube first." She watches Shadis for a moment before waving a hand in front of his face for a moment to get his attention back on him before speaking to him once more. "Can you hear me candidate?" She clams up after that, mentally checking symptoms off one at a time.

Lyria waves to Nadine, terribly curious about what she was going to ask, and drops down into a chair, suggesting from across the room,"Hey Hyti...We were joking about the barracks caving in and Shadis started freaking out soo..uh..." Maybe /that/ will help solve the mystery of Shadis' daziness.

"Glowtube, check," N'ano states, handing said device over, "Think there's somethin' wrong with his hearin' or...?" is asked in all seriousness. Ooh, and then Lyria reminds him as well, "Hey yeah--could he be in like, shock or somethin'? From fright?"

Shadis blinks again, his eyes focusing on Hytiaf for a moment rather than on the wall behind her. No cracks? "What? Yeah." He mumbles, focusing on Hytiaf for a bit longer before returning his attention to the wall to the left of her.

"I 'unno," N'ano starts out, rubbing at the back of his neck, "Maybe he should go back to the dolphincraft... maybe he ain't fit to be a candie?" If that doesn't shake Shadis out of the state he's in...

Hytiaf tries to relax her perpetually lifted eyebrow, but finds it near impossible. "Shadis, focus on me for a moment. Look in my eyes. The weyr is not going to collapse. It has stood for thousands of turns and will stand for thousands more. The smiths and the miners regularly inspect the caves for damage and close off a room before there is any possibility that it might collapse any time in the far future. For someone who's avoided Thread all his life, You seem a touch skiddish. These caves are the same as any hold's caves. Just .. not as decorated." She sighs a little and looks over at N'ano. "Perhaps your right. He might prefer open water."

Shadis's green eyes turn onto Hytiaf again and a shiver runs through Shad's body as he concentrates on her words. With all of his attention aimed at the healer, the fear in his eyes is obvious. "It can. Windcrest did. It was fine. Until it caved in on us." This would be the reason Shad maps and doesn't explore. Well, not really. It was something he prefered before the accident at Windcrest, but faced with the possibility of a crack in the weyr walls, Shadis can't help but be scared out of his wits.

"Guess that stuffie of his ain't as comfortin' as the real thing!" Again, N'ano's being all serious rather than joking, as it might seem in any other situation. "Woah, Windcrest did? Shards--I remember goin' there on that healer trip. Was fun," he grins, nodding his head. "Didn't know it caved in though. But don't worry man--it ain't gonna happen. And if it ever did, we've dragons that can pull y'out with no problem at all... but it ain't gonna happen, so just do what Hyti says, eh?"

Hytiaf shakes her head and steps back. "Nevermind. Go ahead and get dressed, then go stand outside. A rider will take you back to Dolphin as soon as N'ano can arrange it. You'll be safer outside." She smiles and looks over at N'ano, rising to tip toe to kiss his cheek before starting to put things away. She sighs. It'd take a professional mindhealer to help the Shadis through this, and she doesn't have the time to dedicate to that endeavor. "If you want, I can write you a recommendation to Healer Hall to spend some time with a good mind healer. It will help, if you're willing."

N'ano nods his head, agreeing with Hyti. "Aye, that'd probably be best for 'em... too bad, too. He's a good candidate. I thought for sure he'd make a good brown or even bronze rider..." Is Shadis snapping into this world yet? "Well, since you don't have anymore physicals for now--we should hang out while we've time." Wow. What an endeavor.

Shadis nods slowly, sliding off of the table. Of course, something would have to happen about now, so, since that's the way things always go, Shadis doesn't manage to find his feet. The boy simply hits the ground, knees first, then with the rest of the front of his body. What a great sight. A shocked (and naked!) candidate falls on his face after being told he should leave. How great. "Ouch." Shadis groans, glarind momentarily at the floor before shoving himself up to his knees and then sitting back to check himself over. "Shardin' floor! Why do they make those tables so high?!" He complains, glaring in annoyance at his own slightly scraped knees.

N'ano just gives Hyti a look of success, "Mmm, I think he's alright now. Yank that tube back out!" he grins, addressing Shadis now, "Are you actually gonna cooperate now, man? If you're not though, you're goin' back to the 'phinhall. Is that what you want?"

Hytiaf raises an eyebrow and kneels down to examine the young man and his injuries. "Hmm.. They may them that tall to help the Healer's backs and make them not have to bend over all the time." She stands up after a look a the injuries and scratches the back of her neck. "Yeah.. N'ano, but if its that easy to set him off, what's going to happen in Threadfall? Will he see someone's dragon get lightly scored or blink between forever and flip out again? Then what? he's pretty much dead in the sky till someone helps him out. What if simply watching people go between during Threadfall sets him off as well? Will he flip out for no reason? I can't give him my approval as a healer if he's going to be doing that all the time."

N'ano frowns, rubbing at his neck again, "Aye, I see what you're gettin' at... or what'll happen on the sands. Y'know, some dragon'll start talkin' to him--he'll go into shock 'n then some other dragon'll trample him over 'n he'll get severely hurt. Huh." Ooh, such a dilema.

Shadis's glare is directed at N'ano, but only since he can't hide his annoyance at having fallen off a table. With a slight shake of his head and a laugh, Shadis rubs a hand over his face. "Shards, I'm a deadglow." His laughter breaks off, though, as he realizes what's going on and his face becomes grim. "What?" He questions softly, not wanting to interrupt the important decision, but needing to let them know that he's not normally skittish at all. In fact, this happens to be the first time anything of that sort has happened to him...

Hytiaf presses her lips into a fine line and watches N'ano's face. She'll continue if the weyrleader asks her to, but at the current time, she's made her mind up and doesn't see any reason to continue. She takes a deep breath and looks over at Shadis once more. He doesn't even seem to want to stay. he's kind of aloof to her.

"I 'unno Shadis... if somethin' like that's gonna set you off--there ain't no tellin' that somethin' else will too," N'ano comments sincerely. "But--if you've reason to believe you're fit..." he stops, motioning to the equipment on the tray, "then I don't see why we can't finish your physical. But," Oh yes, there's a but, "You're not goin' to stand till you're cleared by a mindhealer. I'll see 'bout gettin' one up here tomorrow mornin', eh?"

Shadis nods slowly, a look of disappointment on his face. He was excited about this whole thing and now he might never get this chance again because of a project gone wrong. "I understand. I've ..." He takes a deep breath, trying to fit what he wants to say into sentences before speaking again. "That's never happened before. I ... don't really know. I can't explain it, but it's never bothered me to be inside, but ... I think with Nadine talking about it... I just lost it. I couldn't help but remember lying there, so close to Mirella, but unable to help her or get helf from her." He sighs, realizing that his chances of staying are most likely shot.

N'ano quirks his brows, shaking his head slightly, "So are you sayin' that you don't want another chance? All you have to say is that you think you're fit to stand--have this physical 'n see the mindhealer. That's all." It's a lot to do but surely it's not alot... "If you'd like to stay a candidate, say yeeeeees. If not, well, we'll be sad to lose you, man."
